Such a Pretty Fat: One Narcissist's Quest to Discover if Her Life Makes Her Ass Look Big, or Why Pie is Not the Answer
God and the weathermen knew I needed a recharging, rainy, reading day! (Too much alliteration. Super Sorry!)
It is supposed to rain buckets, cats and dogs, and be just plain yucky (or for me... it will be just plain wonderful!).
I adore the rain. I've always been a big fan.
I love the cadence of the raindrops on the roof and windows. I find the melancholy sound to be soothing; especially when I am home, snuggled under the fluffy covers with my pups, and a book that I don't want to put down. Today, will be one of those precious days! I already have my book selected, and I am anxious to get to know the characters.
My literary choice for the day is Such a Pretty Fat, by Jen Lancaster. This is a "bubble-gum novel," or a book that requires little thinking or emotional response... just what I need! Judging from the first few pages that I peeked at, it looks funny, witty, and refreshingly realistic about weight and the (often huh-larious) drama that a lifestyle change brings.
It should be no surprise that I, The Foodie, am
So naturally, I am thinking that I can relate to her fat rolls and disdain for skinny-jeans. I know the pounds have to come off of me eventually; but girls, right now, if Spanx can fix it... I'll worry about it after my next meal, or maybe the one after that!
I hope you enjoy your day as much as I will!
*** UPDATE: My candid book review! ***
Thursday, 4/2/09
This book was a super-quick read!
I'm sorry I have not posted my review sooner. We have been having internet issues. Our ISP is Comcast... they are CRAPTASTIC! Ugh. So frustrating!
Moving on...
Such a Pretty Fat had me, literally, laughing out loud! The author, Jen Lancaster, has such quick wit, and a great sense of humor; not to mention, a bit of a potty mouth! I could have done without all of the F bombs, but I still enjoyed relating to her experiences of weight loss.
Lancaster is transparent about her struggles and triumphs, while weaving a hysterical tale bathed in hunger and muscle aches. Like most hungry girls, she was a bit mean and sarcastic to her loved ones, but when she found balance in her life (and raised her blood sugar), her softer side was revealed, as well as, her love for gelato. Jen is a likable... the kind of sassy gal that you wish is your friend!
This hilarious book is well written, with great descriptions and contagious humor. A definite must-read for a rainy day or a lazy weekend!
What else can I say?! Jen Lancaster is a girl after my own (chubby) heart!
